Button box (part 3)

Things are finally almost done. All of the controls are wired up and working with the exception of the 4 black buttons on the top panel. Actually, I do not yet have anything mapped to any of the black buttons yet. The 5 silver ODU option selection buttons are now lit, and look pretty close to what is in the Harrier except that they are silver here and not black. I do think they look pretty cool.

It’s a wiring mess. I used servo extension cables so I can easily disconnect a switch and reconnect as needed.

I am also going to replace one of the black buttons on top with a lit red rectangular Master Warn. Actually I will move Master Caution to the left and put Master Warn to the right.

I did some flying with the button box this morning. It’s going to take some time to develop the muscle memory. It’s a bit of a pain to reach around the throttle without pushing the throttle. I may do a v2 that puts the middle panel at a slant towards the pilot, but I will have to think about this. In the meantime, I will be practicing with my new button box and hopefully flying some combat missions with it soon.

This shows what I have mapped to each control – at the moment.
